The Miner

DIGITAL ARTWORK SOLD AS NFT - 4000X3012 PX / 150 DPI

The term mining has gone through a linguistic evolution due to the growing popularity of cryptocurrency over the past, few years. A decade ago, a miner would be considered as someone whose work involved incredible physical labor in harsh conditions however with the birth of digital currencies, a new kind of miner was born: a crypto miner. When it comes to mining for crypto currencies, a miner uses powerful processing computers to discover solutions for complex hashing puzzles on the blockchain in order to earn cryptocurrencies as a reward. Whereas traditional mining involves strenuous physicality and robust machinery, digital mining tests the miners’ intellectual powers and their sophisticated computer systems.

This artwork is a figurative interpretation of a digital miner who seems to be focusing on a difficult mathematical code, as the solution will be worth the effort. The miner in the oeuvre is gender ambiguous, as crypto mining is not confined to socioeconomic norms or traditions. A colorful magnifying glass amplifies the Miner’s right eye which seems to be observing us in return. As our eyes meet, we cannot help but be inspired by the Miner’s focus and sheer determination which is able to make something of great value out of just some numbers on a screen.
