ETERNAL SMILE

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS 100X100CM

With Greek mythology’s vast collection of fables and lore on the afterlife, it seems that there is a lot that can happen after death. The mythology makes one believe that death is not the end but the beginning of a new chapter.

In this oeuvre, a skull is decorated in a celebratory whirl of colors and pattern, in heavy contrast with the tone that a skull is usually associated with. The skull’s smile is artistically liberated from the confines of general human physiology, a visual commentary on death being a natural process but what comes after it might not be. As the skull with its eternal smile looks at us, we are reminded that Life cannot be celebrated without the acknowledgement of Death and that Death might be a gateway to a realm beyond our human comprehension.
