THE COLLABORATION
Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown has partnered with Kristel Bechara, the award-winning female contemporary artist to present a one-of-a-kind exhibition that features The Voyageur, a centrepiece large-scale acrylic painting on canvas together with five artworks (“The Fragments”) extricated from the centrepiece. The Fragments are presented as 25 limited edition digital prints and sold along with corresponding NFTs. The artworks are revealed at the vernissage on 08 December 2022 during a reception at the Hotel Indigo where guests are treated to a fully immersive experience with the artist while they engage with the spectacular art displayed.
DESCRIPTION – THE ART
Unburdened by restrictions or boundaries, the Voyageur is free to explore destinations undiscovered and experience sights yet unseen. This series is a homage to the spirit of the adventurous traveller, who lives beyond the fear of the unknown and navigates fantastical places that exist in realms of their own. Based around the culminating moment of the Voyageur’s journey, as she reaches the shores of a new utopian city, this series takes the viewer on a visual journey where fantasy meets history and technology merges with magic.
The series consists of 5 artworks that come together to visualize The Voyageur and her companion at the precipice of the unworldly city which she is about to enter. Each artwork is an individual exploration of the various elements at play: the contemplative Voyageur, the Arabesque city of the Future, the mysterious nine-tailed Fox (Kitsune), and the majestic Vessels of the Skies and Seas. Examining each artwork, the viewers will find themselves longing to embark on a voyage of their own which takes them to a place beyond their fears, doubts and limitations.
THE PROJECT DETAILS
- The Voyageur is the title of the main artwork; It a unique original painting traditionally painted with acrylic on large scale cotton canvas 180x108cm.
- Additionally, 5 artworks (the “Fragments”) each inspired by a distinct element from The Voyageur are presented as a limited edition of 25 acrylic prints.
- The Fragments are also available for digital collectors as NFTs. Any digital collector who acquires all 5 Fragments, will be airdropped The Voyageur artwork which in turn can be redeemed for a signed high-quality print.

Invigorated from her voyage and standing on the precipice of a city unknown, the Voyageur finds herself in deep thought. The breeze from the sea plays with her robes as if beckoning her to come forward and see what lies ahead. The sky shifts in shades and colours populated by mysterious planets that are midway through their orbits. The Voyageur is unmoved by this cosmic spectacle. In her thoughts, she is already planning her course up ahead as no mountain, sea or sky can possibly slow her down.
With the Voyageur being the focal point of this NFT digital art, the viewer cannot help but feel captivated by her unmoving presence. Her contemplative demeanour, the firmly held staff and the billowing robes are elements that invigorate one’s spirit of adventure and curiosity about what lies out there.

THE ARABESQUE CITY OF THE FUTURE

Taking up most of the horizon, the City of the Future is a sight to behold, with elements of the past and the future melting together to form a City beyond one’s imagination. Colourful domes of buildings with mysterious inhabitants and secret arches of twisting alleyways, the City invites those who have curiosity and the spirit of adventure coursing through their veins. The Arabesque influences in the City’s architecture are unmissable, further adding to its spiritual and cosmic aura.
Whether the City is floating on the Sea or soaring in the Sky, one can never tell. The hypnotizing vision of the City is powerful enough to have viewers transfixed, inviting them to explore the mysteries that lay deep within.

THE KITSUNE

The Kitsune – a mythical creature that resembles a fox with nine tails belongs to Japanese folklore which is thousands of years old. Considered incredibly powerful and mischievous, the Kitsune appears alongside the Voyageur to examine the sprawling horizon that lies beyond. Its nine tails are meant to indicate the immense paranormal force that lies within the majestic Kitsune. Capable of shapeshifting, possessing superior intelligence and living long lives, this creature belongs to a realm beyond the human imagination. Despite the captivating spectacle of the swirling Sky in the background, the Kitsune is not the one to be overshadowed.
As one becomes transfixed by the creature’s enchanting aura, there is nothing that can be done to avoid its celestial influence. There is only hope that The Kitsune will be pleased with us and lead the way to our destinies.

THE MAJESTIC VESSEL OF THE SEA

With soaring sails and a steady bow, the vessel cuts through the tempestuous waters to reach its destination far and beyond. The sheer strength of its construction challenges all elements of nature to try to slow it down. The dark body of water beneath and the twinkling cosmos above seem to have formed a blissful union for the sake of this vessel so that it reaches the shores in all of its majestic glory.
With the vessel and the forces of nature being aligned, the viewer is posed with questions regarding the direction that they are headed in: why should one sail against the current and risk losing themselves in the struggle? Why cannot one work with the currents of Life and be guided to a path and destiny unexplored?

Whizzing through the swirling expanse of the Skies, these Vessels travel far – breaking barriers of distance, space and time. With their futuristic design, the Vessels are built to withstand any obstacles that might come their way.
